Choosing a Daka FAQ: What type of qualifications show professional competency? There are very few places publicly available where a man can be trained as a Daka. In most cases it happens through training from a Dakini -a female sexual healer. (My training was from Carla Tara (www.1tantra.com) who certified me as a Tantric Healer). There are some schools starting to offer sexological bodywork and sexual shaman training. A Daka who has been trained by a Dakini, attended a sexological bodywork school, or has at least completed some formal training through one of the many Tantra programs available, would likely have appropriate qualifications to work with you. Ask the prospective Daka what training he has received and from what source. What other healing modalities compliment a Daka's service? There are many complimentary healing modalities that enhance the Daka's ability to serve your needs. Energy healing such as Reiki or Quantum Touch assist with energy attunement and sensitivity. (I have received the attunements for a Reiki Master, certified by Reiki Master Judy Noon). Massage therapist certification and/or Cranial Sacral training is also good. A good understanding of ayurvedic, yogic, or Taoist energy systems is preferred and indicated by a long-standing yoga or Qi-gong practice. (I have been practicing yoga and studying energy systems for seven years). What other type of experience is good for a Daka to have? Experience. Experience of life and experience as a Daka. Life experience, especially with reference to relationships, intimacy and sexuality, provides a "seasoned" perspective which benefits from a long-range view. Experience as a Daka reveals the depth of commitment to service and desire to positively influence the health of our culture. (I am 50 years old this year -2009 and I have been providing Daka sessions for several years). Experience as a minister, counselor, therapist, or coach is also very valuable. Some providers have started out with a traditional practice that has expanded to include sexual healing. (I have been a minister and spiritual & relationship counselor for 25 years). What should I expect in terms of a program of sessions? Sexual Healing and Erotic Enrichment are not achieved overnight or usually within one session. Due to the emotional and psychological charge and depth these concerns carry, there is usually a series of sessions needed to develop an effective program for healing, releasing and opening to occur. Typically, three to five sessions are needed to peel away the layers of defenses and armoring that have existed until now. The initial session provides intake information and sets a prospective arch for recovery and integration. The second and third sessions often just scratch the surface of the energy that has been compacted and restricted -often for years. As with Ayurvedic healing, a holistic approach is applied to sexual healing. During subsequent sessions, a greater understanding of the scope for healing, expanding and opening needing to take place becomes apparent with each session informing the Daka for the next session. Often, several months transpire with consistent periodic sessions, while this healing path's trajectory unfolds. I suggest a two hour session for the first time we come together to allow for intake information and getting comfortable with each other's energy. I evaluate the discoveries of the first session and formulate a suggested program for further healing sessions and conscious integration in the process.
